Employment is an important issue as far as the International Committee is concerned. Employment guide Rachida Achahbar directs a well defined target group to a job, an education (training) or a VDAB-trajectory. In the course of controlled interviews, unemployed and hard to reach immigrants are referred to a VDAB-trajectory or assisted in finding a job or an education leading to employment. The surplus value of this project lies in the fact that unemployed immigrants, who are reluctant to ask the authorities for help, can be detected and helped in a more casual and informal way. At this moment the target group consists mainly of people from the Turkish, the African and the Moroccan community in the Waasland region.
More specifically:
- Empowerment of the unemployed and adjust his/her attitude towards work, starting from a familiar environment.
- Have intake conversations.
- Motivate unemployed immigrant to take a training and to apply for jobs.
- Keep track of each unemployed and offer support during his or her trajectory.
- Co-operate with other services and organisations regarding the follow through and referring to others.
- Organise a job market and offer information.
- Assist unemployed in the use of the WIS-computer.
- Help to use the self-service computers in the Jobshop (Werkwinkel).
- Organise meetings between employers and immigrant youths.
